In the Shadows

It will always be you,
Who stood at the door and peered in,
Forcing me to let you in.
Understanding and patient,
You stood in the hallway,
Leaving a gap between you and me.
Suddenly the space filled the silence with fear,
And the darkness with unending light,
I wanted to run,
In a shame, I couldn’t fight.
My feet started to move, and my heart pounded fast,
I ran to the back door to escape this horror of past,
But there you were,
With your arms crossed and that slick smile.
You were waiting for me,
Waiting to make me remember,
So I begged, I screamed, I tried,
But no matter what I did,
You wouldn’t get out of my head.
