The Runaway

Reflecting off the water’s edge,
Laid a woman I forgot I could remember,
With honest eyes meant to deceive,
And lips pure enough to tease,
Oh, how fun was she.
Night after night,
Sitting at the bar, alone and yet smiling with glee,
That a man would soon find her company,
Laughing and asking questions as they all do,
It was easy.
It was always easy,
Luring them back to my room,
Where no one could hide,
And no one can see,
The shadows of the day,
Coming out to play,
Frightening my senses,
And twisting my mind,
Night after night,
The sun still shines.
